WorldSkills 2024 Regional Competition

21 June 2024

On Friday 5 July, electrical apprentices from around Australia will come together in the cutting-edge workshop at NECA Education & Careers’ Dandenong Campus to compete in a WorldSkills Australia Regional ANZETA Electrical Apprentice Competition.

Apprentices from across Australia will test their skills by wiring up a pre-defined installation according to circuit and equipment diagrams, drawing on the principles they have been gained during their apprenticeship so far, in a friendly competition designed to promote learning. The WorldSkills Australia competitions in Electrical Installations align to UEE30820 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, the apprenticeship qualification.

All qualifying participants demonstrate the skills and competitive edge for a challenge like WorldSkills and will be outstanding representatives of their respective training organisations. Up for grabs, on the day, are gold, silver, and bronze medals, and the chance to compete in the National Competition in 2025.

As well as their Tasmanian counterparts, apprentices from NECA Education & Careers (Vic) will join representatives from NSW, ACT, SA, QLD and WA.

These competitors will be among over 4000 apprentices, trainees, and students who participate annually in World Skills competitions in fields ranging from construction to creative arts and beyond.  Every two years there are more than 500 Regional

Competitions held in 34 regions across Australia which test the skills and knowledge of the participants. Electrical Installations are just one area of specialisation.

The event is made possible through the support of major partners - ETU, Energy Skills Australia and NECA as well as sponsors - Middy’s, Milwaukee, NHP and Omega, and partnering host businesses - Nilsen, Prime Electrical & Data, and Stowe. Their support provides the apprentices with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents to electrical industry members.

We invite industry members to drop by the recently opened NECA E&C Dandenong Campus and see the apprentices in action on the day. Competition viewing will be available from 9am – 11am and 1pm – 3pm.

We look forward to seeing you on the day and celebrating the successes of all the participants. Look out for more details on the participants by following NECA Education & Careers on our social channels.
