NECA HSEQ Plus Management System Updates

05 June 2024

NECA is pleased to announce updates to the NECA HSEQ Plus Management System, which have been implemented following an internal review over the last five months. These enhancements are designed to ensure our continued compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, while also addressing the evolving needs of our industry.

Shortly we will be announcing a significant change to the digital side of HSEQ as well. Watch this space.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Psychosocial Policy: Introduction of a new policy to support members to manage psychosocial hazards and risks in the workplace.
  • Enhanced Visibility of HRCW: We have added 19 high-risk points to the front page of all 46 templates for easier reference.
  • Crystalline Silica High Risk SWMS: A specific Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) has been introduced for handling crystalline silica.
  • Updated Master Template: Reflects the 19 high-risk points.
  • Streamlined SWMS: Compliance codes and Australian standards have been removed from the SWMS to streamline content. These are now available as reference points for members as needed.
  • Emergency Rescue Plan: We have incorporated an emergency rescue plan into our system.

Maintaining the Risk Matrix

The risk matrix remains an integral part of the SWMS template. While WorkSafe Victoria does not require the risk matrix for compliance, it becomes essential when working with builders accredited by the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC). The matrix helps demonstrate inherent and residual risks as part of the accreditation process.

We encourage all members to utilise the risk matrix to assess risks thoroughly and adhere to WorkSafe's guidelines for drafting SWMS for high-risk construction work.

Guidance on Using HSEQ+

Our updated SWMS templates are straightforward and designed to be easily adapted to your specific needs. While we provide extensive information, it is crucial for you to customise these documents to fit your unique operational practices.

Use of Macro in Master Template

We have changed the document around in “Unblocking macro and using the macro” and have added how to unblock the macro if you get blocked when using the master template. Simply click on the SWMS all docs, then click on the link referencing “Unblocking macro” and you will be able to follow the instructions.
